في آخر ليلة من رمضان، صعدت ليلى إلى السطح مع بابا. همس بابا: «الليلة نبحث عن الهلال الجديد».
On the last night of Ramadan, Layla climbed up to the rooftop with Baba. “Tonight we look for the new moon,” Baba whispered.
2هناك! ابتسامة فضية رفيعة فوق المدينة. صاحت ليلى: «عيد مبارك!» فأضاءت كل نوافذ الشارع.
There! A thin silver smile above the city. “Eid Mubarak!” shouted Layla, and every window in the street began to glow.
3في الصباح، لبست ليلى ثياب العيد الجديدة. رشّت ماما قليلًا من عطر العود، ففاحت في البيت كله رائحة الفرح.
In the morning, Layla put on brand-new Eid clothes. Mama sprayed a little oud, and the whole house smelled like a celebration.
4مشت ليلى مع العائلة إلى صلاة العيد. تردّدت الأصوات: «الله أكبر!» هادئةً وكبيرةً معًا، والشمس تُشرق.
Layla walked with the family to the Eid prayer. “Allahu Akbar!” the voices sang, soft and big at once, as the sun came up.
