Look inside

The first pages — with Rashid as the hero

Before Jaddah (that means Grandma) left for Hajj, she gave Rashid one very important job. “Look after my jasmine,” she said. “It gets so thirsty in the summer heat.”

Every evening, Rashid filled the little watering can and gave the jasmine a long, cool drink. Far away in Makkah, said Mama, Jaddah was praying among millions of pilgrims dressed in white.
